Sue requested a Maori styled ankle band to recall her origins far away, with turtles (family, voyage), korus (new life) and frangipani flowers (plumeria).

This flower is very common on the Pacific islands, where it often symbolizes shelter and belonging. In Tahiti and in other Pacific islands women used to wear a frangipani flower behind their ear, on the right if they were not engaged, on the left if they were.

A curiosity: Aka means "root", and probably not by chance. This short combination of letters is actually used to make many Maori words.
